Hirayama Onsen Yamato Ryokan | TRAVEL GUIDE IN KYUSHU, "reQreate"

Hirayama Onsen Yamato Ryokan

Hot spring inn famous for traditional tofu dishes

The inn has four Japanese-style guestrooms in the main building, three detached rooms in the older building, and three newly-built spacious detached cottages, allowing the guests to enjoy traditional ryokan atmosphere. The restaurant Warabi serves dishes using onsen momen tofu (hot spring coarse-grain tofu) hand-made by laborious and time-consuming traditional method. Soy beans from Hokkaido are soaked in water from the hot spring, carefully mashed in a stone mortar, and boiled in a pot. They offer course menus featuring local specialties from Kumamoto, horse meat and Yamaga beef, as well as a vegetarian course menu using edible wild plants. The restaurant and hot spring baths are open at a reasonable price for visitors who will not stay overnight. The open-air bath in the main building "Yakushi no Yu" features free-flowing hot spring water in a natural setting that gives it a free and relaxing feel.
