Kamado Shrine

An ancient shrine surrounded by the rich nature of Mt. Homan

Located northeast of Dazaifu Government, the shrine is said to have been built to protect the government from evil spirits believed to come in from that direction. The shrine has over 1,350 years of history – it worships Tamayori Himeno Mikoto, birth mother of Emperor Jimmu and has long been a destination to wish for good marriage and receive prayers. At the top of the mountain of Homan is the Gogu shrine, and at the foot is the Gegu shrine. Mt. Homan is said to attract the most number of hikers in Fukuoka, and has an altitude of 829 meters. In 2013, the mountain was named sacred by the national government – the third sacred mountain after Mt. Chokai and Mt. Fuji.
