Kikuchi Valley Hot Springs Iwakura | TRAVEL GUIDE IN KYUSHU, "reQreate"

Kikuchi Valley Hot Springs Iwakura

A quiet Japanese style inn beside the Kikuchi River with independently housed rooms

Kikuchi Valley, famous for its beautiful clear stream, is only a ten-minute drive away from this ryokan inn located right next to Kikuchi River. All guest rooms are independently housed, so you can enjoy a feeling of privacy. Their popular onsen (hot spring) is an alkaline simple spring, and is mild and silky to the touch. Not only do the guest rooms come with a bath using water flowing directly from the hot spring source, there is also a large public bath separated by men and women in the main house which can be used by visitors and guests alike. An original multi-course kaiseki cuisine is served for dinner, with local food like Kumamoto’s black wagyu beef and seasonal, fresh ingredients. Nature’s beauty is on full display here at Iwakura—early summertime brings fireflies to the guest room windows, in the autumn a magnificent foliage, and between the two seasons an opportunity to experience kawadoko (dining on the river). For guests using public transportation, the inn offers rides to Kumamoto Airport and Higo Ozu Station, among other locations. Make sure to check with the staff for details when booking your stay.
