Trace the footsteps of aspiring brothers in post-Meiji Restoration Japan
When Japan had barely entered the era of modernization, there lived a family of four brothers with great ambitions. Hachiro advocated the Freedom and People’s Rights Movement; Tamizo devoted his life to the Land Restoration Movement; Yazo looked up to China as the ideal nation; and the fourth and youngest brother Toten succeeded the other brothers’ wishes by supporting Sun Yat-sen, the father of the Chinese Revolution. The house where these brothers were born and raised is now preserved as a historic site. Visitors can walk through a simple yet dignified Japanese-style traditional house, and see its thatched roof, earthen floor kitchen, wooden porch, tatami rooms, and a garden with plants that have existed since the brothers’ time. The Miyazaki Brothers Museum is a storehouse within the site where films shown on DVD and relics on exhibition introduce the achievements of these brothers who sought to create the ideal nation in a time of great turbulence.
